Portrait de Mayou, photographe de MAY PHotographie, et de ses animaux, un chien et un chat

I have never been one who, even from high school, knew  the kind of path that I wanted to follow in life. The road had full of twists and turns: from wanting to become a professional ballet dancer to  an anthropologist, shifting through interior design, psychology and sociology...

Photography has long been a hobby of mine, but the idea of making a career out of it didn't cross my mind for many years. Yet looking back on it, I now see a common thread that led me there.

In fact, photography brings to a harmony the lack of creativity that social science requires and its exploration/documentation of the human being. Even if it was not always clear, being a photographer is now an obvious truth and a real passion to me. Photography is a way to express myself, to engage myself socially, to surpass myself. It's not just a matter of clicking on a camera, it's a matter of meeting beautiful souls and living human diversity at it's fullest. Not only live it, but capture its ephemeral side and make it a timeless and tangible little capsule!

Mayou G Larivière

You know we are a good match when:

  • You are an open-minded and enthusiastic individual

  • You want to express yourself through a unique concept

  • You want something that is more natural and fluide than a photobooth

  • You are looking for someone to artistically document a moment, a connection, a feeling

  • You are looking for a comfortable experience in front of a camera that will highlight all the beauty that is shown through diversity

My photographic style

My most frequently asked question: Is Mayou your real name?

The answer
Yes, yes! It is indeed the first name that my parents gave me at birth, the one on all my papers!

The origin

My parents were both great admirers of Quebec singer Richard Séguin and he himself named his daughter Mayou and wrote a song for her. My parents found the name originaland besides, I was going to have a song named after me! Despite the few fears they had, I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world and I think it represents me perfectly!

Some lyrics of the song 'Oh Mayou'
(traduct from french)

  Oh Mayou
  Barely are you standing
  On this crazy planet
  That already
  You bring me the sun
  While its sleep
  Oh Mayou
I see you walking in the city
  In the year two thousand

  Neither poodle nor fetish
  Neither pastiche nor filly
  Neither potiche nor maid

  But giant and challenging
  But powerful and quivering
But a hell of a living

Jeune version de moi, jeune photographie, moi quand j'étais enfant

Beyond photography, I like...

  • To read a good book

  • To travel, learn

  • Cards and board games

  • To go on road trips with friends

  • Pasta!!

  • My dog, Daisy and my kitten, Kira

  • Thunderstorms and the sound of rain

  • The movement of water and the wind on the shore

Un chien mignon et cute, un golden

I will always fight for...

The freedom to be whoever you want and to love whoever you want

The rights and freedoms of sexual and ethnic minorities
Gender equality

Marginalized people - Mental health

My style is frank, expressive and with a touch of nostalgic curiosity. I particularly like to immortalize moments of intimacy, movements and exploring different angles of view.
In order to properly paint the portrait of our session, I always try to capture the full experience by taking the time to photograph the details, the emotions and the scene as a whole.

Approaching each session with a fresh look, a vision adjusted to you and your needs is also important for me.

As for the editing process, it varies depending on the style of the photoshoot. That being said, I like the slightly warm tones that highlight all skins, the play of contrasts, shadows and lights that give an ethereal atmosphere and a dreamy air to my shots.
